Thought by many to be a congested metropolis, New Jersey is also a place of great beauty, with lush forests and countryside, diverse and steeped in American history. I have always loved the landscape, and much of my work explores the hills, rivers, and open spaces that comprise most of the state.
David Henderson is native and lifelong resident of New Jersey. Studying at Boston University’s School for the Arts, he graduated in 1976 with a degree in painting. From there, emerged a long career as an illustrator, spanning almost three decades. A veteran of hundreds of commissioned paintings for advertising, corporate and publishing clients, today, like many of his contemporaries, David brings the discipline, energy and vitality on a new path into the world of fine art.
“Throughout my career as a commercial artist, I was always a painter, favoring oils over other mediums. Like many others of my generation of illustrators, I’ve shifted my focus from commercial work to that of fine art. As an academically trained artist, it was a challenge for me to become an illustrator. Today after almost thirty successful years in commercial art, to once again be creating works that stand on their own feels very much like returning home after a long voyage…”
