As we all know, Influenza is a serious and often life-threatening disease. But did you also know that Canine Influenza is just as serious as the virus that affects humans? In fact, there have been confirmed cases of Canine Influenza here in Monmouth County, New Jersey just this past month!
Recently, my veterinarian forwarded important information to me regarding Canine Influenza. I feel that it is now my duty to spread the word.
All social dogs, especially those who travel, visit boarding or grooming facilities, or exercise and have “play dates” with other dogs, are at risk for contracting the highly contagious dog flu. This virus can spread from one dog to another via direct physical contact, through viral particles that travel in the air from coughs and sneezes, and even through objects touched by the infected dog.

Because new cases have been confirmed in Central NJ, I strongly recommend that all of our canine 4 FOOTED ONES be vaccinated against Canine Influenza. To evaluate your dog’s risk for contracting Canine Influenza, as well as to find important information about this virus, please visit https://www.dogflu.com/
If you cannot remember if your dog has already been vaccinated against Canine Influenza, call, text or email your vet and ask him/her to check the vaccines listed in your dog’s record. And as a precautionary measure, always wash your hands after touching a dog that is not yours.
