Where Academic Excellence and Emotional Intelligence Converge
By Meg Ahern, Director of Admission & Enrollment Management
Far Hills Country Day School (Far Hills) is a Preschool through Grade 8 Independent School nestled in the hills of Somerset County, New Jersey.
Sitting on an expansive 54-acre campus, with woodlands, a Ropes Course, a Mountain Bike Trail, and a pond provides students with opportunities to learn beyond the walls of the classroom. Students also have access to athletic fields, a state-of-the-art performing arts center, and cutting-edge science and STEAM labs. This extension of the educational environment fosters independence and contributes to excellence in academics, emotional self-awareness, and distinction in the arts and athletics.
Falcon Pride Point: At the pond, students study cattails, milkweed, and duckweed in situ.
Athletics and physical education focus on building a strong body and strong character by teaching how to win gracefully and lose with honor. The Ropes Course encourages teamwork and sensible risk-taking—important preparation for life’s challenges ahead.
Falcon Pride Point: Far Hills is the only school (Preschool-Grade 8) in the area with an on-campus Ropes Course and Mountain Bike Trail.
STEAM Lab– The Learning Commons is a brand new addition at the heart of our campus and is a space that connects the five subjects of STEAM—science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. This classroom is a spot where not only the students can collaborate with their peers, but also our teachers can collaborate with one another. Our STEAM curriculum is designed to impact students throughout their Far Hills experience and provide them with foundational skills to achieve success far beyond their Grade 8 year. We are motivating our students to embrace collaboration and engagement through not only the technology in the space, but also through the flexibility of the learning environment.
Falcon Pride Point: Through this one space, students can build, code, and work on apps, robotics, engineering, and various cross-curricular projects. One day a student could be presenting, building a robot the next day, and working on their grade-level capstone, the day after that in one space. Has your child thought like an engineer today?
Our dedicated and passionate teachers employ research-based strategies, including mind, brain, and education science, keeping the students’ learning at the center of all they do. The deep connectivity between Far Hill’s students and their teachers lasts well into their young adulthood.
Falcon Pride Point: Every year, an average of 32 graduates come back to visit their teachers.
The arts are a point of pride at Far Hills. Our program provides students with a comprehensive studio experience in both 2D and 3D formats and an award-winning music curriculum that encourages students to create, perform, respond, and connect to music.
Falcon Pride Point: Students will perform or present to an audience 86 times while at Far Hills.
Social and emotional learning permeates everyday life at Far Hills. Students cultivate life skills— practicing mindfulness, uncovering their strengths, developing empathy, learning conscious decision-making, and building skills that help them communicate, manage stress, and motivate themselves.
Falcon Pride Point: Far Hill’s students graduate prepared to confidently lead and achieve.
No two students at Far Hills are alike, nor is their individual path as they learn and grow. At Far Hills, students are known and loved. Our small class size allows teachers the opportunity to
differentiate their instruction to meet the needs of each child where they are to develop their unique strengths and challenge them in their areas of growth. Far Hills graduates move on to attend the finest boarding and day schools in the country. When they arrive, they are not only prepared, but they exhibit strength of character and confidence in all areas of the secondary school experience from the classroom to the fields to the stage.
