We live in unprecedented times of escalating stress and tension in our personal and professional lives. This is compounded by escalating stress and divisiveness in society as a whole. Everyone knows this. It’s more important than ever that all of us have the tools we need to reduce stress, increase resilience, and promote good mental and physical health. Our families, workplaces, community, and our nation as a whole depend on it.
With this in mind, the Meditate America health initiative was launched to make the Transcendental Meditation (TM) program available to as many people as possible. We want as many people as possible in our community to learn to meditate, particularly during these times of toxic stress and volatility. TM is not a quick-fix meditation that you can learn from a book or a tape. It is the evidenced-based, gold standard of meditations. It is taught by highly-trained, certified TM teachers through an initial seven steps of instruction and a complete lifetime follow-up program. TM is an effortless meditation practice that’s taught one-on-one, is based on evidence found, and is guaranteed. Some benefits include reduced stress and anxiety, increased mental clarity and creativity, better sleep, and improved health.
More recently, as part of the Lifeline Program, we are targeting five key groups that have unique challenges and face stress and trauma almost every day.
1. Frontline healthcare workers
2. First responders, firefighters, police, and EMS
3. Military personnel and veterans
4. Survivors of domestic violence
5. Families from under-resourced neighborhoods
Based on successful programs in hospitals, fire stations, and veterans facilities, this Lifeline Program is designed to empower individuals in high-stress professions by introducing them to TM. The program has been shown to help them manage stress, enhance mental clarity, and build emotional resilience. We offer scholarships to teach ten people from a hospital, fire department, or veteran facility, etc. to meditate. We hope this will “seed” a TM program in that institution and encourage these groups to integrate TM into their wellness budgets for long-term sustainability.
If you know of any individuals or institutions that might be interested in this Lifeline Program, please contact Randy Mackenzie or Alice Brickman at 908-522-0820. We have free information sessions on TM every week in person or online. Learn more at www. tm.org/summit.
Dr. Richard Berardi, Summit Health – “I recognize TM for what it is, a powerful tool that anyone can access to treat a host of illnesses……. Not only has it helped me with mental and physical stress and resilience, but it has helped dozens and dozens of my patients who have also learned this easy-to-learn technique. I have been able to get my patients off antidepressants, blood pressure meds, anxiety meds, and even sleeping pills, all through this simple tool.
Lastly, if you are skeptical or have ‘no time’ to incorporate this, you are precisely the person who would benefit the most. It was frankly the easiest thing for me to learn yet one of the most profound.”
