There Are Many Reasons To Visit An Eye Doctor
Many diseases are first identified in the eye such as diabetes, glaucoma, family history issues, age-related issues. Everyone’s medical situation is different.
“Vision is our most precious sense,” said Dr. Lawrence Najarian, a board-certified ophthalmologist and founder and medical director of Bedminster Eye and Laser Center. “Most people think that if they are not having problems with their vision they don’t need to see an eye doctor. But that’s not true. Many eye diseases such as diabetes can be detected by an eye doctor before other symptoms become apparent. That is why it is so important to see an ophthalmologist for an eye exam every one to two years.”
Dr. Najarian is an M.D. ophthalmologist with a sub-specialty in uveitis. He leads a highly trained clinical team including Dr. Lisa Ortenzio, a medical optometrist with a specialty in Dry Eye. Together, they provide a full range of eye care from comprehensive eye exams including prescriptions for eyeglasses and contact lenses to the latest in diagnostic testing, medical treatments, and surgical procedures.
Early treatment is critically important to prevent common eye diseases such as cataracts, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, and age-related macular degeneration from causing permanent vision loss or blindness.
Know that if you use your computer or other digital devices more than two hours a day and suffer from tired or dry eyes or experience blurriness, or have trouble reading books, doing gardening, or gaming on devices, you may have digital eye strain. You are not alone. Millions of people are affected every day. Ask your eye doctor for possible solutions and also have a conversation with an optician who can suggest specific eyeglasses and lens coatings.
As we emerge from the pandemic, it is important to get back into a routine eye care schedule. Dr. Najarian and Dr. Ortenzio can assess the risk factors for your eyes and make specific recommendations for testing, treatment, or surgery if you need it.
“As a physician, my ultimate responsibility is to each one of my patients,” said Dr. Najarian. “To be able to give someone better sight and help people see better is very rewarding and why I became an ophthalmologist.”
