Saint James School is a co-ed Catholic elementary school located in Basking Ridge, New Jersey. We are a part of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Metuchen, and serve students in grades Pre-School through 8. We have been open for 5-full days a week during COVID-19, and we have taken every precaution to ensure the safety of our students, teachers, faculty, and staff.
At Saint James, we strive to create an atmosphere inspired by the Gospel, and everything we do is derived from the teachings, traditions, and values of the Catholic Church. We offer Pre-School classes for 2 ½, 3, and 4-year-olds, which are aligned to the New Jersey Pre-School Guidelines. Every teacher at SJS has been certified by the state of New Jersey. Starting in Kindergarten, our students participate in a full-day learning program of Religion, Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. In all grade levels, students have classes in Art, Music, Physical Education, World Language, and Technology.
Our curriculum is based on the resources from the Diocese of Metuchen and the New Jersey State Education Standards.
We use technology to enhance and enrich our curriculum. In addition to recently enhancing our infrastructure to handle the simultaneous use of multiple devices, new technology has been added. Interactive projectors and document cameras have been installed in every classroom. Our middle school students have the opportunity to use Chromebooks for Internet access, Google Education Apps, and many online educational resources.
Each year, our graduates move on to high performing high schools, private and public, as well as Catholic high schools, including Delbarton, Pingry, Seton Hall Prep, Oratory Prep, Mount Saint Mary Academy, Academy of Saint Elizabeth, Gill Saint Bernard, Oak Knoll, Villa Walsh, Morris Catholic, Union Catholic, and Immaculata High School.
