There’s no better way to prepare children for a lifetime of learning than to help them learn to love school from the start.
Situated on a five-acre campus, St. Andrew’s Preschool and Kindergarten in New Providence has provided a nurturing educational environment since 1965. This nonreligious school specializes in programs for ages two through six with a variety of flexible schedules available.
Top-Notch Education
“Our school differentiates itself with its educational value. We align our curriculum with the local schools and keep it up-to-date to ensure students are well prepared for elementary school,” says Christina Olson, school director. “Education is individualized and we have a small student-to-teacher ratio.”
Children partake in hands-on play-based learning activities that build a strong foundation in literacy and math. Classes are taught by caring, knowledgeable teachers (all lead teachers are state certified) who follow the New Jersey’s Preschool Standards as well as Common Core State Standards for Kindergarten.
In addition, students are immersed in a variety of disciplines, including music, art and movement, while character education helps students learn social skills. When it’s time for outdoor play, each age group has its own developmentally appropriate playground.
St. Andrew’s Spanish instruction is quite unique. Kindergarten and Transitional Kindergarten students receive Spanish immersion instruction several times a week, which supports language skills and builds a love of language.
Enriching activities, addressing a variety of topics, such as STEM, Reading, Literacy and Math are available during our extended day program from 7:30am-6:00pm.
Last, St. Andrew’s has an active Parents’ Association, which organizes fun evening and weekend events.
Unique Kindergarten Program
St. Andrew’s offers two types of programs for kindergarteners: full-day and wrap-around for those students in half-day public programs. In addition to fine-tuning reading skills, handwriting, and math skills, kindergarteners take turns in the kitchen cooking healthy lunches for their classmates. Regular gym and music are offered as well as daily Spanish classes.
Transitional Kindergarten (TK)
St. Andrew’s offers a unique TK program for those students who just miss the state cut-off or who could benefit from an additional year prior to Kindergarten. This class is aimed at creating successful Kindergarteners.
Drop-and Play and Summer Camp
Parents who need scheduling flexibility can take advantage of a variety of half and full-day options as well as drop-and-play, any day including summer. Reservations are required and time slots are flexible with sessions starting at 8:45am. St. Andrew’s is currently working on an afterschool care program for elementary school children and will provide transportation.
For year-round care, St. Andrew’s offers an exciting summer camp featuring a weekly theme for children ages 2 ½ through first grade. Children enjoy outdoor playtime as well as group learning activities.
It doesn’t take more than a few minutes on the St. Andrew’s campus to realize it is a special place. “Children come here and love school forever because of the love of learning St. Andrew’s instills in its students,” states Clarissa Walsh, office manager.
