Joan Thomson is an artist and educator who lives and works in Somerset County. She incorporates many mediums in her work, however her main focus has been Watercolor painting and Functional Ceramics. She holds a B.A. in Art from Rowan University and a M.A. in Art Education from Kean University. She has studied with many artists at the duCret School of Art, The Center for Contemporary Art, the Loveladies Foundation for the Arts and Sciences.
Joan is an Art teacher at Watchung Hills Regional High School in Warren, NJ. She has taught high school Fine Art and Ceramic classes to adults and teens for over twenty-five years. In 2009 she was recognized as Teacher of the Year at Watchung Hills. She is currently introducing her students to the use of iPads as an artistic medium. Joan and her students are drawing directly on the iPad to create digital images that can be added to all electronic devices.
Her paintings and ceramics have been selected into regional art exhibitions including the Comart Drawing Gallery Syracuse, NY; Gallery 214 Artspace, Montclair, NJ and the Pharmacia Corporation, Peapack, NJ.
As an educator, Joan has aspired to instill a lifelong appreciation of Art in her students. She resides in Green Brook and is actively involved in local Art Associations.
