Over the years Mark has worked in pen & ink, etching, watercolor, pastel and oils. He graduated from the New Jersey Institute of Technology with a degree in chemical engineering but has spent most of his adult life pursuing his passion for painting. He has studied with Robert Sakson (watercolor), Gary Godbee (oil), Lee Hughes (watercolor) and Frank Zuccarelli, PSA (pastel). His work is influenced by John Singer Sargent, and he strives for a dynamic realism that is painterly and not photo realistic.
Mark is a signature member of The New Jersey Watercolor Society; The Garden State Watercolor Society; North East Watercolor Society, Allied Artists of America and Hudson Valley Art Association and Pastel Society of New Jersey, where he was the founding president in 2005. Mark’s work has appeared in three books by North Light Press, Splash 8, Splash 9 and Watercolor Secrets. In the August 2007 issue of Watercolor Magic, Mark’s unique talent with watercolor was highlighted in a six page article. He has participated in nationally juried shows with the Salmagundi Club, Non-Member Show (Pastel Society of America Plaque and Watercolor Award of Excellence), Hudson Valley Art Association, Audubon Artists of America, and the Allied Artists of America (Jane Peterson Memorial Award).
Many other awards include six awards from New Jersey Watercolor Society, two Best in Shows from the Roxbury Art Association, and Essex Watercolor Society. He has had several one man shows, and is in numerous collections across the country and abroad including former New Jersey Governor Tom Kean.
