Sandy has been an artist her entire life. After attending art school in New York City, where she studied illustration, she worked as a children’s book designer for many years. It was there that she developed a passion for painting animals and children.
During the past few years she has developed her oil painting skills and mainly uses this medium. She often works from photographs and paints commissioned pet portraits. She enjoys the challenge of capturing the animal’s personality on canvas. Her paintings reflect her love of fine detail as she strives for a realistic effect. Nature is a common theme in her paintings; her still life pieces usually have a natural element in them too.
Sandy has taken painting classes at The Center for Contemporary Art in Bedminster, where she also serves as a trustee on the board. The vibrant art exhibits held at the Center continue to inspire her.
Among the places where Sandy’s art has been shown are: The Mikhail Zakin Gallery, Demarest, NJ; The Center for Contemporary Art, Bedminster, NJ; The Albrook School, Basking Ridge, NJ; The Bridgewater Municipal Building; and The Bridgewater Public Library.
The featured painting on this magazine’s cover was inspired by an adorable little Westie dog named Princess. She is a relative’s beloved pet who came to live with Sandy and her family.
More of her artwork can be seen on her website at www.sandyruda.com. She can be contacted at sandyruda@gmail.com. She is presently taking commissions.
