Joanne Wong is a senior at Watchung Hills Regional High School. In seventh grade she was convinced that her future was going to be in chemical engineering. However upon entering high school, she realized that her passion resided in the fine arts.
Since sophomore year she has been taking fine arts classes and is currently taking an AP Art class. She is a member of the National Art Honor Society. In the past, her artwork has been displayed at the Teen Arts Festival as well as the Cultural and Heritage Commission of Somerset County and the DuCret School of Art.
In September, Joanne will be attending the Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University in order to study fine arts. Though she has done artworks in many mediums, she particularly favors working in watercolor and acrylic paint. Joanne’s favorite subjects include people and natural landscapes. Her watercolor piece on the cover is titled “Fresh Impressions.” It was one of her earlier works last year, inspired by the fresh beauty of nature.
In addition to art, Joanne loves spending time to serve her community. She enjoys volunteering at Habitat for Humanity and Feed the Children, along with any other volunteer opportunity that comes her way, whether at school, at her church or anywhere else.
In the future, she hopes to become an art teacher. Joanne is looking forward to starting her studies in September and is extremely excited to see where her studies will lead her in the coming years.
