You need to evaluate how you are using your time, as it is limited. But it is not all about how you are using your time to potentiate happiness; it is your perception and interpretation as to how you are using it. Moments of joy can be a fleeting feeling, while unpleasant experiences can be prolonged. Einstein said that “the rate at which time passes depends on your frame of reference.” The true value of how you use your time is your ability to recall times past to use that information to shape your present and your future. Being mindful of how you are spending your time now and making existential decisions as to how to use your time in the future is important. Factors such as attention, emotions, and memory affect our perception of time. In that sense, our perception of how we spend time can be subjective, making time fly or having periods of boredom that are seemingly endless. The present is the time to evaluate your time. With whom are you spending it? Are you spending enough of it on enjoyable activities? Is your time rigid or fluid? Does time run your life, or do you set limits and controls over how you spend your time? Keep in mind a quote by Bil Keane, the well-known cartoonist. “Yesterday’s the past, tomorrow’s the future, but today is a gift. You can’t create more of it, replace it, regain it once it is gone, predict it, or change it. It is continuous and never stops, and we have no control over it other than how we use it in the moment. It can’t be destroyed, but it certainly can be wasted. You cannot find the time to do something; you can only make the time to work out, clean your garage, or spend time with a loved one. Our very existence is governed by the continuous progression of time. It is an integral part of our lives. In many ways, we measure our lives from one point in time to another, such as birthdays, anniversaries, and scheduled appointments. How do you use your time?
