If you are mostly painting and buying new furniture and curtains you will want the assistance of a good interior designer. If you are doing a kitchen or bathroom, or built-in cabinetry, hiring an experienced kitchen and bath designer is important because the construction of cabinetry, kitchens, and baths is very technical and there is a lot of coordination with many different trades like the plumber, electrician, and general contractor. Ask your friends, whose remodel you have admired, who they used, and if they would recommend them. Once you have the names of referred companies, set up a meeting with each designer and ask them to give you an estimate on your project.
