But in so many cases, we’ve lost the memories of what life was like 50, 100, or 200 years ago. Some things were written down, but most are lost. Mendham is luckier than most towns. It’s been around for 275 years, and some of what happened during that time has been preserved. We have memories stored in institutions like the Ralston Cider Mill and the Black Horse Tavern and in areas like Historic Brookside and in our supreme education system. But many stories are buried in archives and inaccessible to all but Join us as we create memories for the future. Fortunately, technology also helps us to capture and distribute stories in new ways. Hometown History is a new podcast that aims to share stories about Mendham’s unique past. It launched on May 8th and it explores what life was like in each of these iconic local institutions, and more. This year Mendham Township is celebrating its legacy of history with a special 275th anniversary event on October 8th at the Ralston October 8th at the Ralston Cider Mill. It’s the perfect time to learn about the special connection Mendham has to the cider industry and experience an official apple pressing while there. In addition to these festivities, The Hometown History booth will feature a recording station where people from Mendham will have a chance to share their stories of life in the historic town and speak directly to future generations.
