The tristate area’s top literary event, the Morristown Festival of Books, is taking place on Friday, October 9, and Saturday, October 10, 2026, in historic downtown Morristown with something for readers of all ages and tastes. Created by and for people who love books, MFOB has become a destination event for authors and readers. Since its inception 13 years ago, the Fest has established itself among the top book festivals nationwide, drawing thousands of annual attendees to enjoy: • In-person talks and book signings by world-class authors. • A diverse roster that has grown to more than 450 authors over the Festival’s tenure. • Multiple Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award winners, Newbury and Caldecott medalists, and New York Times bestselling fiction and non-fiction luminaries along with emerging voices across all genres. • Special events for children of all ages. Kicking things off on Friday night is the not-to-be-missed Keynote Event at MPAC theater: Malcolm Gladwell, author of multiple #1 New York Times bestsellers, including Outliers and The Tipping Point, and host of the podcast Revisionist History, will discuss his highly anticipated new book, The American Way of Killing: The Invention of an Epidemic. The roster of 40+ authors includes some of today’s hottest names, such as novelists Anna Quindlen, Emma Straub, Nadia Hashimi, Riley Sager, Annabel Monaghan, and Elizabeth Lim; sports journalist Matthew Futterman; biographer Nicholas Boggs on James Baldwin; food blogger Lily P Crumbs (Alex George); and nonfiction writers Robert Kolker, Amanda Holden, Benjamin Hale, David Pogue, and Nathaniel Philbrick. KidFest, also on Saturday, is bigger and better than ever! Fan-favorite Dan Gutman returns with the latest in his My Weirdtastic School series. A celebration of The Babysitters Club’s 40th anniversary will include multiple authors and fun surprises. The bustling KidFest tent will feature Rachel Renee and Nikki Russell, coauthors of the beloved Dork Diaries, Jacky Davis and David Soman (Ladybug Girl authors with a new picture book series), Alan Katz (Funniest Joke Books), Rowboat Watkins, Beth Ferry, and dozens more, along with fun crafts, activities, and balloon art. The FREE Main Festival and KidFest take place on Saturday, rain or shine, from 10am-5pm. Locations include the Morristown & Morris Township Library, St. Peter’s Episcopal Church and Parish Hall, the Parish House of the Presbyterian Church, and Church of the Redeemer in downtown Morristown, NJ, easily reached via NJ Transit. The Festival center, in front of the historic Vail Mansion at 110 South Street, is just a short walk from the train station and accessible municipal parking lots.
