THE BRIDGEWATER-SOMERVILLE CONNECTION PAGE 25 APRIL/MAY 2024 theconnectionsnj.com Serving the community since 1980, Jewish Family Services, or JFS, is a leading non-sectarian social service agency whose doors are open to the whole community. JFS serves clients of all backgrounds, races, religions, ethnicities, cultures, socio-economic backgrounds, genders, sexual orientations, ages, and physical abilities. It works with clients to address problems, explore alternatives, develop new insights, and find solutions. They offer a continuum of services including the Betty & Arthur Roswell Counseling Center, Holocaust and senior services, family mentors, career counseling, community outreach and education, the Lee Family’s Expanding Horizons program for neurodivergent youth and young adults, and more. JFS relies on its volunteers to get things done. Here are just some of our testimonials so you can understand the impact volunteering can make: A client in the Senior Shopper Program said, “There is not enough room to describe how highly I would praise my volunteer. Briefly, she is a lifeline. I look forward to her weekly visits. She brings food and joy”. Another client in JFS’ Family Mentor Program told us, “(My volunteer) was a wonderful companion. We shared many good conversations. She was very helpful when I had bad days.” Volunteers shared that, “The staff is responsive and supportive of volunteers” and “I appreciate that a qualified, experienced social worker is there for me – and for the families they help.” You can check out all of our volunteering opportunities on our website and click “Volunteer” at the top of jewishfamilysvc.org jewishfamilysvc.org to become a part of the magic of our community. Last year, JFS celebrated services “Across the Lifecycle” at our sold-out Jazz Club. We are going to keep the momentum going with another unforgettable night of entertainment. We’re celebrating the magic of our community with magician Michael Chaut, founder of New York’s longest-running Off-Broadway magic act “Monday Night Magic.” Join us Thursday, May 16 at 7 PM, in Bound Brook for Kosher desserts, drinks, and magic while raising much-needed funds for individuals and families in our community. The rapidly increasing cost of living and ongoing social challenges are making it difficult for our neighbors of all backgrounds and faiths to meet everyday needs. Your support is critical to help us to meet the increasing requests for emergency support, mental health counseling, therapeutic groups, and more.
