Each April edition, we are honored to feature a student artist on our cover. This year Marianna Renda, a senior at Watchung Hills Regional High School was selected. Her cover piece enti- tled, “Not A Jellyfish,” is a part of her Sustained Investi- gation theme: How do humans negatively impact sealife? Sea turtles cannot distinguish the difference between jellyfish, the main component of their diet, and floating plastic bags. To depict this issue, Marianna used acrylic to paint a sea turtle on a plastic “thank you” bag. The turtle is reaching for the bag handle, as if he were trying to eat it. She chose this topic for her Sustained Investigation to raise awareness about how sea animals and their environment are being destroyed, in the hope of inspiring people to recycle and be more cautious as to how they affect life around them. We wish Marianna much luck in college next year and are thrilled to have this wonderful painting and message adorn our cover. Please read her im- pressive bio on page 8.
