HudsonWay Immer- sion School is offering hands on fun with three exciting themes for children ages 2-12 to explore the world in Man- darin or Spanish this summer! Each theme integrates art, music, cul- ture, and language learning. Session 1 Planet Earth - (weeks of June 22 and June 29) Discover and explore the world we live in with the awe-inspiring sights and sounds of the world and its natural beauty. Explore what makes countries unique – natural landforms, animals, and plant life. Through exploration we excite young minds and inspire student knowledge in science, mathematics, language, and culture. Session 2 Cooking around the World! - (weeks of July 6 to July 13) We are trotting around the world and exploring well-known foods and cuisines – Italy, China, Spain, Mexico are just some of the countries we trav- el to as we learn what foods are native to these countries and see how food is part of their culture. Children also enjoy learning about healthy eating, and food preparation. Children learn culinary skills while learning a new lan- guage! Session 3 Where the Wild Things Are - (weeks of July 20 and July 27) Inspired by this classical children's liter- ature, we are ready to take our chil- dren on an imaginative journey as we explore the story, writing, art, and the extended meanings beyond the pages and scenes. Whether it’s recreating the scenes from the story or build the extension by learning in real life, don’t miss the fun in exploring these stories in Mandarin or Spanish! Session 4: Readers Workshop Camp - Taught in English (week of August 3) Using the Orton Gillingham method, this camp focuses on getting children to practice oral reading skills, build reading confidence, and learn to enjoy reading with hilarious reader's theater scripts. Each day includes discussion, class performance, and optional exten- sion assignments, and outdoor time for the extra fun! Session 5: Math Camp - Taught in English (week of August 10) Math can be fun and hands-on! This camp incorporates interactive activities that explains math concepts in a simple and fun way. Campers will be divided into mini groups to work on problem- solving and practice teamwork.
