She began her career in a metallurgical factory, where she skillfully created elegant spaces for social events and relaxation. Her talent extended to stage design, earning her recognition for her work in theatrical productions. Around 2010, Natasha transitioned from contemporary designs to the traditional canon of art, focusing on painting church icons. Her revered works are now displayed in numerous churches across various states. Natasha's artistic journey has led her to explore various mediums, including oil pastels, watercolors, and acrylics. Recently, she has developed a profound appreciation for oil paint, often blending it with other materials to create distinctive effects in her artwork. Grounded in realism, her work spans a wide range of subjects, from portraits of people and animals to depictions of nature and everyday scenarios. Her most recent pieces celebrate the beauty of life and the untouched wilderness. In addition to her diverse artistic endeavors, Natasha is an illustrator for a children's journal, bringing stories to life with her captivating illustrations. Her work has been showcased in multiple exhibits, including the Farmstead Arts Center and the Bridgewater Public Library, where she continues to inspire and engage the community with her exceptional talent. Rows per inch (length) are less critical because it is easily adjusted when creating the garment by adding or eliminating rows. There is one variable in obtaining gauge and that is you. Yes, we are all different. Some of us are tight knitters/crocheters, others are loose, and yet others are just right. Tight and loose knitters/crocheters will need to adjust needle size, up or down, to achieve the correct gauge. This is why it’s important to create a gauge swatch at the beginning of each project. If the gauge does not match the pattern requirements, change the needle up one size if there are too many stitches per inch (stitches too small), or go down one size if there are too few stitches per inch (stitches too large). Continue working on the gauge swatch until the gauge is achieved. If the ball band is no longer available, another way to determine yarn weight is by “wraps per inch” (WPIs). To determine WPIs, wrap the yarn around a ruler for 1” without stretching and without gaps. Count the wraps on the ruler’s front. Compare this number to a chart like the one below. This will provide the approximate yarn weight/ type. Use this chart to help with pairing yarn with needles/hooks. Print and laminate for handy reference or take a photo. You’ll definitely want to keep this guide! hich comes first, the yarn or the pattern? Answer: Either one. The pattern will suggest the yarn weight, needle/hook (aka needle) size and gauge needed to achieve the design. Starting with the yarn, the ball band (the paper sleeve around the yarn) will identify the yarn’s weight, needle size and gauge. The objective is to match these key elements on both the pattern and the yarn’s ball band for best results and accurate sizing. Let’s look at each element. Yarn weight is the thickness of the yarn. It ranges from lace (thin) to super bulky (thick). Suggested needles (knitting) and hooks (crochet) are identified by their diameter from thin (<1 mm) to thick (> 1”). Yarn and needles need to work together. Thin yarn uses small/thin needles. Thick yarn uses large/thick needles. Using a thin needle with thick yarn will generate a stiff fabric. Using a thick needle with thin yarn will generate a stitch that is loose and shapeless. Gauge is the number of stitches per inch (horizontal) and rows per inch (vertical). Gauge is critical when making anything that goes around the body (e.g., mitten, hat, and sweater) because stitches per inch are the measurement used around the body (width) to determine size. Achieving the required horizontal gauge will ensure that the finished item will meet the chosen size. This measurement must be verified before beginning the project by making a gauge swatch, a 4” x 4” square using the recommended W

Her family says, “There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing.” This philosophy has gained popularity as American families are learning about Scandinavian parenting techniques. If dressed appropriately, being outside in most kinds of weather is actually the healthiest thing you can do. So get outside! There is a lot to do in this area, even in winter and into the muddy months of spring. You can start with the jam-packed calendar of activities at the Environmental Education Center on Lord Stirling Road in Basking Ridge. The crown jewel of the late winter calendar at the EEC is its Maple Sugaring program. The program is fun and informative for all ages. Starting at the Center, the group takes a short half-mile hike to the Maple Sugaring shack where a naturalist explains the history of maple sugaring that began in the Northeast centuries ago with the Native Americans and the Colonists. The program also includes a demonstration of how the trees are tapped with both modern and historical sap-collecting methods, as well as showing the boiling process that produces delicious local maple syrup. The 60-minute program is offered every Saturday and Sunday in February at 12pm and 2pm. Tickets are $6 for seniors and students and $7 for adults. They are available at the EEC and it is recommended that you arrive 30-40 minutes early to purchase the tickets. There is a lot to do while you wait! One tip-wear warm clothing and boots or other appropriate footwear. The trails are likely to be muddy or covered in snow. If you have a Scout troop, you can contact the center about forming or joining a scouting group. Want to learn a little more about nature and meet some people while getting some exercise outdoors? Walking outdoors has been proven to benefit both your mental and physical health. Join one of the EEC’s “Woodland Walks.” This weekly walking group for adults is offered every Tuesday in February from 9-10am. A naturalist takes the group on a walk on the trails at a moderate pace with occasional breaks. The cost is $24 for the 4-week session for seniors, $28 for adults. There are loads of opportunities at the EEC for kids of all ages to get outdoors and connect with nature. The Young Explorers Club on Monday mornings is for infants through age five with a caregiver. KinderNats is on Mondays after school for kids ages 5-7. Swamp Kids is the perfect after-school activity on Thursdays for kids, ages 8-10, who love the outdoors. Older kids, ages 11-13, will love the Trailblazers program on Wednesdays. There are also one-day programs like Animal Tracks that take kids out on the hiking trails with a naturalist in search of animal tracks. All programs require registration.
