Everything they touch seems to turn gorgeous. Those amazing people may have you fearing that you’re not like that. You may even say, “I don’t have a creative bone in my body”. That of course is not true. When we block our creativity, it’s usually because we’re stuck in old beliefs and pat- terns. We think we don’t have the talent to pursue the things we love. So we give up on even trying. Another reason we may avoid pursu- ing our creativity is the fear of getting it wrong. Or exposing ourselves for being a fraud. Even Leonardo Da Vinci made mis- takes. Once he was asked to preside as head chef for a major banquet. He created a grand plan for the 200 excited guests. He created a powerful stove with convey- or belts to move plates around the kitch- en. He created and installed a massive sprinkler system just to be safe, in case anything burned. Well, on the day of the event, everything that could go wrong, went wrong. The con- veyor system failed, promoting a re, which caused the sprinklers to go off, which caused a ood, which washed away all the food. I know, right!! Later Da Vinci went on to note that “Ob- stacles do not bend me”. So let’s imagine what you could do if you had no fear of making mistakes. You are a creative being. All human beings are gifted with almost unlimited potential for learning and creativi- ty. Some of us are just better at allowing and nurturing that part of ourselves. The most common excuse is that life gets busy. Calendars get full. Time moves on. Weeks and maybe even months go by without honoring the creative passion that is looking to come out of you. What habit do you have that gets in the way of your creativity? You don’t have to make a big deal of it. You can easily add a few minutes of cre- ative time into your life every day. When you do, you’ll be amazed at how much bet- ter you feel. It can be simple and easy to invite cre- ativity to transform yourself into one of those creative people you admire. You just need to allow it to come to you. Getting past a creative block can be as simple as a walk in the park. Creativ- ity loves to flow when you are relaxed and calm. If you’re caught in your head, stressing about stuff, a walk in nature can certainly fix that. A simple shift in your energy with a short meditation or some breathing exercises are also great and easy things to do. Act like a kid to activate your creative ow. Doing simple things can lead to cre- ative breakthroughs. Try a few of these ideas and see what it inspires for you. 1) Grab a box of crayons and a coloring book 2) Squeeze and mold bright gobs of play dough 3) Paint rocks from your yard 4) Draw a scene with your non-dominant hand 5) Cook up a sweet dessert without using a recipe 6) Take a walk in the woods and collect odd shaped leaves If you’re ready to go further, there are 2 really cool books that I love. The rst book is “The Artist’s Way” by Julia Cameron which will take you through 12 weeks of exercises and questions to help you get clear on blocks and limiting beliefs around your creativity. You’ll be taken on a journey thru the spiritual path to higher cre- ativity. The second book is “How to Think Like Leonardo da Vinci” by Michael J. Gelb. The author guides you in discovering and under- standing the boundlessness of our own full human potential. It’s also lled with fun ex- ercises and experiences that uplevel the way you think about creativity. Imagine that creativity is the Divine look- ing to express through you. When you think of it in this light, you al- low it to ow naturally from your heart. And that is the greatest feeling of all. Remember, you’re always allowing. If you are not allowing your God-given gifts to shine thru, then you’re allowing the op- posite to ll that space. And that does not feel good. So let’s feel good. Let’s allow. Let’s play and let’s create! When we block our creativity, it’s usually because we’re stuck in old beliefs and patterns. We think we don’t have the talent to pursue the things we love. So we give up on even trying. Act like a kid to activate your creative ow. Doing simple things can lead to creative breakthroughs.
