Local artist, Jolanta Talaikiene , adorns our front cover with an acrylic on canvas entitled, “Summer Thoughts.” Born and raised in Lithuania, Jolanta was not free to express herself artistically. Upon arriving in the United States she started painting in earnest. She states, “This cover painting is one of the last works I’ve done. The friendship of two gracious animals, Emily, a beautiful steed and Travy, an old lovely pony inspired me to create this painting. Both of them are my daughter’s horseback riding teacher’s horses. I felt that I had to paint them and immortalize their lives full of laughter and tears, joyful rides and sad days, carrying hundreds of children on their backs, bringing happiness and giving unconditioned friendship to them. While painting them, I was asking, what happens when the children leave and these two beautiful creatures stay after the hard work day under the starry sky. What are they thinking about?
