Trying to plan a unique night out with a group of adult friends? Then take a look at several spectacular magic shows in New York City that will wow you beyond belief. Really good magic entertains the young and the old alike and can turn even the biggest skeptics into believers. The Quantum Eye at Theater 80 in Greenwich Village features mentalist and magician, Sam Eaton. Eaton employs his dry sense of humor and intuitive senses to challenge his audience’s perception in an unforgettable and thoroughly entertaining show. This show is family friendly for children seven and older. The Quantum Eye is performed Satur- days at 5pm at 80 St. Marks Place (off 1st Ave.) Tickets are $55 for General Admission or $87 for assigned seating in the front rows. If you want something a little more sophisticated, state-of-the- art magician and mind reader, Steve Cohen, performs Chamber Music for small, adult-only audi- ences in an elegant suite inside the iconic Waldorf Astoria Hotel. Cohen asks his audiences to dress in cocktail attire, conjuring up the intimacy and sophistication of the parlor performances popular in the 19th century and to allow everyone to see the magic up close. Known as “The Millionaire Magician,” Cohen has performed for celebrities, royalty and other VIPs around the world. The 90- minute shows are held Fridays at 7 and 9pm and Saturdays at 2, 7 and 9pm. The price is $85 for General Admission and $115 for seating in the first two rows. For a more exclusive experience, once a month, Mr. Cohen pres- ents his special Miracles at Mid- night show. In this very intimate setting, just 20 guests see the magic performed up close and personal. Tickets, $250, can be purchased for groups of 10 or more. What a great idea for a birthday or special occasion. Every Monday evening at 8pm, Monday Night Magic attracts magic lovers of all ages to the New Players Theater, 115 McDou- gal Street between Bleeker and 3rd. Every show is unique and features a world-renowned magi- cian. It is a family-friendly show, but geared to an adult audience that can appreciate a high level of sophisticated skill by professional entertainers. If this sparks your inner magician or someone in your family wants to learn more about the art of magic, there are several magic shops to visit in the city. Among them is Tannen’s Magic, 45 West 34th Street, between 6th and 7th Avenues. Tannen’s is the city’s oldest magic shop, in exis- tence since 1925. Nearby, Fan- tasma, 421 7th Avenue at 33rd Street, features Harry Houdini’s artifacts prominently displayed in glass cases.
