With truSculpt 3D, a tech- nician uses a wand that emits controlled radiofrequency ener- gy to gently warm the skin and the fat beneath it. The patient experiences a tol- erable heat sensation over the area being treated, but it doesn’t burn. Says Meulener, “Most patients expe- rience a little redness and soreness in the area for a few days following the treatment. People start seeing results in six to eight weeks, with maximum results by about 12 weeks.” Meulener says the treatment usu- ally does not require repeated “touch ups.” He states, “Fat cells don’t divide very well, so if you kill fat cells in an area, they don’t reproduce and you won’t gain weight in that area as easily anymore. The truSculpt tech- nique reduces fat by 24% in the area that you treat.” The ideal patients for this tech- nique, say Meulener, are those who are somewhat fit and have a BMI of less than 35, but have a few areas they’d like to work on. Appropriate treatment areas include the abdomen (particularly in women after child- birth), under the arms, under the chin, the thighs, and the back. truSculpt 3D can be paired with other techniques for maximum results. For instance, after childbirth, many women not only want to reduce fat on the abdomen as well as eliminate stretch marks. Meulener says he can combine truSculpt with microneedling, which uses an array of thousands of microscopic needles to penetrate the skin and introduce a solution that stimulates collagen for- mation over time.
