Creating an outdoor living sanctuary?
Remodeling a kitchen? Finishing your base-
ment? Don’t forget to plan and budget for
some new high tech products that could
improve your new space and your life. Our
team from TrueLeaf Kitchens recently visit-
ed the National Kitchen and Bath show in
New Orleans and one thing we noticed was
that technology is being integrated into all
sorts of products that will enhance homes
in really surprising and exciting ways. From
smart home control systems to removable
speakers in your shower head, there are
many useful ways to incorporate technolo-
gy into your home.
The kitchen is the hub of family activity so
it is often the place where people and tech-
nology come together the most. The
kitchen is a great place to have a touch
screen control for your smart home system.
This system will control, among many other
things, preprogrammed lighting “scenes”
which will adjust all the lighting in the
room based on the scene that is selected.
The type of lighting used in the kitchen is
moving towards mostly LED lights, which
last much longer and are small and easy to
integrate. These versatile lights are being
used to light up drawers and cabinet interi-
ors, to illuminate glass shelves in glass
fronted cabinets, for under cabinet light-
ing, to back light tile backsplashes, to light
up cabinet toe kicks and to provide an
alternative recessed lighting for the ceiling.
LED lights, smart home systems and new
entertainment technology are not just for
the kitchen, the function of your whole
home can be improved with a few new
products.
Your smart home system can control your
whole home environment while you are at
home or when you are away. Using your
wireless touch screen or your own mobile
device your sounds system can be turned
on and music will flow through the speak-
ers installed throughout your home, motor-
ized blinds can be adjusted to give you
more privacy, your security system can be
activated and your air-conditioning turned
down. With a touch of a button you are
truly master of your domain.
All the rooms in your home can benefit
from adding speakers and/or a hidden TV.
Kohler has a new shower head that has a
speaker built into it and a tub that you can
actually feel your music playing. Discreet,
paintable in-ceiling speakers can be
installed anywhere and can be controlled
wirelessly via the smart home control sys-
tem or personal mobile devices. Even locat-
ing a TV in any room is so much easier now;
drop down TV’s under cabinets, pop up
TV’s in the bedroom, hidden TV’s behind
mirrors in the bathroom (see photo) are all
great options. What is not to love about
feeling connected anywhere and anytime
you need it.
Improved lighting, convenient entertain-
ment, better security, and responsive cli-
mate control – all things that new technol-
ogy can bring to your home to make life
just a little more comfortable. The design
professionals at TrueLeaf Kitchens can help
you determine which high tech products
make sense for your home and integrate
this new technology into your next renova-
tion. Visit the TrueLeaf Kitchens showroom
in downtown Basking Ridge or their web
site at www.trueleafkitchens.com.
