We are delighted to present a fabulous issue of The Bridgewater-Somerville Connec- tion at the most joyous time of the year. With that in mind, we have in- cluded several wonderful sections in the magazine: Holiday Cheer Section, Dining For The Holidays and Houses of Worship as well as our regular sec- tions, Home & Design, Shop Somerville, Health & Wellness and our Community Calendar. One of the Community News articles in this issue is about “Knit- ted Knockers!” The Auxiliary of JFK Medical Center Foundation along with its volunteer knitters provide FREE prosthetics for breast cancer patients who cannot or choose not to have reconstruction. It is a wonderful organization with local coordinator, Lenore Grubman of Watchung, spearheading this effort. Please read this heartwarming article and contact Lenore if you would like to help or need their services. In addition, we are thrilled to highlight the following businesses in this edi- tion: Jewelry Studio, Huntington Learning Center, Soos Radon and Electric, Inc and The Midland School. Our talented writers have given us unique in- sight into these businesses and their respective owners. Local artist Lloyd Garrison adorns the front cover with an oil, which was made for a Christmas card in 2010, entitled “The Rahway Girl Scout House.” This house dates back to the Revolutionary War and Lloyd painted it over 200 times. In the 1970’s there was a plan to knock it down and he was asked if he would like to buy it. The house however was not demolished and luckily it became a historical site. About his art, Lloyd states, “People have many opinions about work- ing artists, mostly negative. But I was very lucky to have started in the 60’s and to have been a professional artist for almost 50 years. From the age of 6 years old to now there has been nothing I would rather do. If you are an actor, singer, musician or artist you know that we love our craft and will retire only when we can no longer per- form.” Please read Lloyd’s impressive bio on page 8.
