In keeping with its name, Retro Fitness has all the basics of the classic gyms and continues to preserve the con- cept of “Retro” workouts (referring back to the low gym memberships of the 80s with high quality services). Retro Fitness moves forward as well, and strives to keep up with the pace that fitness is moving. “There are so many things under one roof – the concept keeps changing,” said owner Bill Iovino. “We’ve evolved in leaps and bounds.” Bill noted that the brand and family ori- entation of Retro Fitness are its trade- marks. “We care about the customer and want to help change lives for the better.” Bill opened up his first Retro Fitness fran- chise in September of 2008 in North Brunswick after coming off active duty and needing to join a gym. He said he fell in love with Retro Fitness . One thing that Bill said impressed him was that Retro Fit- ness offers military discounts and other discounts across the board (first respon- ders and police are included). Retro Fit- ness targets all age groups and audiences. There is something for everyone! Some things that are very important to Retro Fitness are participating and getting involved in the community. Retro Fitness has sponsored events such as Raritan Community Day and the Cops and Rodders Car Show (for widows and fallen police officers). They also get involved with programs involving the local high school teams. Retro Fitness can attract many life styles when it comes to working out. They offer very diverse machinery and group classes suitable for all tastes and styles. The gym is described as a large area for working out with free weights and dumbbells; they have triples of cer- tain machines, so if one machine is taken, there are others available that will work out the same muscle groups. To add a little extra luxury, the treadmills have TVs integrated into them. For peo- ple who may want to train for functional purposes, this gym has turf areas just for that. There is also a large spread of car- dio equipment that has sophisticated options such as heart rate monitoring and calorie counting. In addition, they offer Spin, Zumba, Yoga, Step and other High Intensity classes. Retro Fitness strives to keep the atmosphere upbeat with its bright colors and their selection of music that moti- vates people to work out. The gym is a good place for socialization as Retro Fit- ness tries to make the gym a communi- ty hub. “We want people to feel con- nected to our community” said Bill. Some things to consider about this gym are that they accept all forms of health insurance and signing up is fairly simple. They provide a free tour and fit- ness assessment by just filling out a guest pass so interested parties can see if the gym is for them. If the interest is in train- ing alone, the training that Retro Fit- ness offers is accredited by NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine). Retro Fitness is also the official fitness center of the NY Yankees. There are so many extras Retro Fit- ness possesses that people may not know about. For VIP members, Retro Fitness offers services beyond the basics such as childcare and tanning. To add to the fun, Retro Fitness has its own juice bar in the gym. Members can enjoy an assortment of delicious smoothies and purees as a treat for a hard work out. Bill shared that his children have all worked at Retro Fitness at some point. He said that they have many high school and college age students that work there and he receives excellent feedback about his staff.
