HAVE HAIR TRENDS PASSED YOU BY?

If you are feeling fashion and hair trends
are only for celebrities and models in mag-
azines, think again. A fresh new look and
loads of compliments can really pick up
ones energy and self confidence. When is
the last time you changed your hairstyle
or color? Do you go to your hairdresser
and repeatedly get the same color and
cut, regardless of the season or your own
life changes? Do you enjoy talking to your
hairdresser, but never really talk about
your hair?
If this sounds familiar, and you would like
to be inspired and really LOVE your hair,
perhaps it’s time for a change. Taking a
large leap can be daunting; however small
changes can pick up an old look and
ignite a whole new feeling about yourself
and your hair.
I believe the success of Bellezza Salon is
attributed by the commitment to educa-
tion on the part of the owner Jocelyn, and
her dedicated staff members. Many have
been with the Bellezza team for over 14
years. This education brings our clients
constant inspiration, new looks, ideas,
and trends, for haircuts, formal styles and
great head turning color. Rarely does a
month go by that we do not bring in an
artist from around the world to teach.
One or more of our stylists are often in
great high fashion locations such as New
York, Las Vegas, and Miami attending
educational events. Personally I take every
opportunity to attend these events and I
thrive on the topics that I can then return
to the salon and teach the staff. I come
back enjoying my craft more than ever
and my energy is renewed each time.
Some of the trends I had been seeing at
these events are a return to old Hollywood
glamour and femininity. The top knot or
bun and its many variations are often
complimented by another popular trend –
bangs. Full, sexy bangs are huge this fall
as they frame the face and enhance the
eyes. If the commitment to bangs is too
much, the option of a clip on bang is a
great way to go. Braids of many forms
and types are also very popular for formal
looks as well as casual. They are frequent-
ly seen in runway shows as well. The
ponytail is so much more in fashion now
than your cheerleader days. Ponytails of
today are chic and stylish and can be worn
for eveningwear if placed and finished the
right way. High, low, sleek and textured
are all great looks for a ponytail.
As far as haircuts, scissors and razors both
are used in creating some great classic
and new more textured looks. The
Mohawk has now inspired some very
sophisticated short hair looks. Undercuts
are back in a less obvious but very useful
way of removing excess weight.
Being a colorist for me is more exciting
than ever. From transitional color or
ombre looks to balayage or hair painting,
very natural highlighted glows can be
achieved. There are also pastel shades,
dimensional color, and organic color with-
out ammonia (which I am a huge fan of).
Face frame highlights are also a quick way
to brighten the face and give an overall lift
to anyone feeling dull. The new power
dose deep conditioners are tailored to
each individual hair type and last for up to
5
weeks. I find them fabulous.
Finally, one of the more recent product
additions from Bumble and bumble are
the hair chalks. A powder pastel color
spray for temporary hair color added to
styles for a quick edgy flash of color. These
can be used by your stylist at the salon
and also as a take home version to use
without a long term commitment.
