The rapport between client and
general contractor or interior
designer is one of the most
important relationships a home-
owner can have, yet it has the
reputation for being one of the
most difficult to forge. An unhap-
py pairing can make a job take
longer, be more expensive and
easily become a nightmarish dis-
aster. However, the right choice
can make a homeowner’s dreams
come true. Making those dreams
come true is what the award-win-
ning team at Aurora Kitchens &
Interiors is all about. With their
unique approach, personalized

Kolbe Clark and Kelley Evens
met while they were each work-
ing on a remodeling project in
2003. They started working
together on a regular basis the
following year, and in 2008 decid-
ed to join forces and open Auro-
ra Kitchens & Interiors in Rari-
tan. This collaboration, combined
with their particular approach to
remodeling, has not only created
many happy clients, but garnered
a total of 12 Contractor of the
Year (CotY) awards. In 2012,
Aurora was the only firm in NJ to
take home awards in 5 different
categories. Two of the awards
were for kitchen renovations: one
costing under $40,000 and the
other between $40,000 and
$80,000. The other awards were
for a bath makeover for under
$30,000, a laundry room renova-
tion and a commercial interior. All
entries were scored by an inde-
pendent panel of judges using six
separate criteria: client satisfac-
tion, functionality, aesthetics,
craftsmanship, innovation and
degree of difficulty.
As the firm has continued to
grow, Clark and Evens began
looking for a space to expand
their design studio. Earlier this
year they found one. A Victorian
located at 10 East Cliff Street in
Somerville. After closing in mid-
June, they started renovating the
first floor so they could create a
more open floor plan that was
more conducive to their unique
approach to the design process
and serving their clients. The new
space will have additional displays
along with a full-fledged design
center – everything needed to
plan your next home interior or
remodeling project under one
roof.
