PINNACLE
MOTOR
WORKS
10 Bay Street
Stirling
By: Matt Potter
Owners, Larry Goodman and Yung S. Tan
It all started with a 1958 190
Diesel Mercedes. That was the first
c
ar owned by Larry M. Goodman,
owner and founder of
Pinnacle
Motor Works
in Stirling – and it
helped fuel a lifelong appreciation
f
or European vehicles, and
German engineering in particular.
After graduating from Ohio
University, Larry went to work as a
t
echnician at Mercedes and BMW
dealerships, until, in 1983, he
broke away to set up his own
i
ndependent garage. Clearly, it
was the correct decision. That
s
hop,
Pinnacle Motor Works,
at
10 Bay Street, will celebrate its
30th anniversary next summer.
“We are equipped to handle
a
ny make and model, from fresh
off the showroom to classics,”
L
arry says. “Our customers form a
r
elationship with us because they
want to keep driving their cars
l
ong after warranty.”
While
Pinnacle
will service and
r
epair all kinds of cars, its primary
f
ocus is European vehicles, espe-
c
ially German. BMWs, Mercedes,
Audis, Porsches and more are
t
aken care of in a clean and well-
maintained environment at its
S
tirling location.
“We offer our customers a state-
of-the-art auto repair shop with
updated equipment,” notes Larry,
who joined forces with a business
partner, Yung S. Tan, in 2003. “We
a
re committed to providing high-
quality, friendly service at fair prices,
a
nd all our technicians are factory
t
rained and always current with the
new technology.”
That personal touch and pas-
sion for cars is what unites
Pinnacle
with its customers, many
of whom have been bringing in
their cars for over 20 years.
“Going to a dealership is imper-
sonal,” explains Larry. “When peo-
ple come to
Pinnacle,
it’s more
one-on-one; people talk to me
directly, as the owner of the busi-
ness. We know that going to get
your car repaired is a bit like going
to the dentist: nobody loves doing
it. But our focus is to make sure
the customer is satisfied with the
work we’ve done on his or her car,
and we think we provide the best
value for your service dollars.”
For more than 25 years,
Pinnacle
has been BOSCH-author-
ized – a difficult accolade to
achieve, given the stringency of
the criteria – while Larry himself
acquired his USA Master ASE
Technician L1 Certification in 1997.
He is also certified in emission
repair by the State of New Jersey.
The shop’s five factory-trained
technicians remain on top of
industry developments, too.
“We are constantly going for
training and doing in-house train-
ing,” says Larry.

is also a New Jersey Inspection
