Despite being named Liberty Science Center, a number of its featured exhibitions combine art, science, and interactivity for fun, hands-on learning. The LSC is 300,000 square feet, housing 12 exhibition halls, a live animal collection with 110 species, aquariums, a 3D theater, classrooms and labs, and the Jennifer Chalsty Planetarium and LSC Giant Dome Theater, which is the biggest planetarium in the Western Hemisphere.
One such exhibition is called “Skyscraper!” Visitors of all ages can learn about the physics and engineering behind skyscrapers and how they impact cities and the environment. As for the interactivity– bold visitors can strap into a harness and walk across a narrow steel beam 18 feet above the floor! “Wonder Why” allows for hands-on learning. Visitors can learn about friction by rock climbing, learn about flight by witnessing a ball in an airstream, and marvel at six-foot-wide soap bubbles. “Pixel Art” combines art and science with a wall installation of 952-pixel dials. Visitors can rotate the dials to see one of 1,000 color combinations, the intersection of visual art, and the science behind color and light.
Finally, adults 21 and over can enjoy LSC After Dark, an after-hours, themed party held on the third Thursday of the month from 6-10 pm. Adults can explore exhibitions, enjoy food and drinks, and dance the night away. Check the website for COVID related updates.
Fall is the perfect time for visitors of all ages to enjoy LSC’s indoor, air-conditioned facilities and immerse yourself in science!
