“It’s the thing that everybody should do,” says Dr. Christopher Wawrzyniak, M.S., D.C. when referring to the 8 Weeks to Wellness Program that will be launching in mid-January at Functional Health’s new office location (One Eastern Ave, Somerville). The new location is not far from their old location which was by the DMV in Somerville. The name “Functional Health” stems from the desire to treat the entire system and have everything working together, according to Wawrzyniak.
The 8WW program that will be launching is a comprehensive wellness program that focuses on physical therapy, nutrition, and counseling (it combines chiropractic, weight loss, massage, meditation and even exercise which is huge). Dr. Wawrzyniak said “I thought I could be that guy who really brought exercise to chiropractic.” He explained that people really need lifestyle changes and that 80% of deaths can be avoided by making these simple changes. Furthermore, the program is giving people what they need specifically.
The meditation portion of the wellness program is guided by Dr. Wawrzyniak who will sit down and go through it with the patient. “It is more of a coaching and hands-on experience,” said Dr. Wawrzyniak. “You get the resources you need,” he said. He mentioned that it is done in a very calming atmosphere. The goal is to “slow the mind down and focus on what is important.”
Wawrzyniak considers himself to be a healer on top of a Chiropractor and stated “We’re holistic and don’t use medication. We manipulate the body to heal itself.” Wawrzyniak worked alongside his father Dr. Ron Wawrzyniak D.C. for the past 10 years. “We are such different doctors, but we are the same in a way,” he said of their relationship in the practice.
Wawrzyniak knows there are a lot of Chiropractors out there, but the competition doesn’t ruffle him. He commented “I try to be a person who lives by my values. I try to be different. People don’t realize that they have options.”
Functional Health sees a good population of High School athletes for treating concussions and other athletic injuries. A recent success story for this practice was the healing of a young patient who was paralyzed from the waist down as a result of a trampoline accident. It took only three weeks for Functional Health to treat this patient back to normal functioning. The end result was a happy, pain-free patient.
Functional Health’s main goal is to understand the body’s weaknesses and have everything working together. New patients will find the combination of exercise and chiropractic appealing and that is what makes Functional Health successful.
Dr. Wawrzyniak explained that Functional Health is confident that it will continue to attract new patients with their unique philosophy and encourage people who are seeking an alternate route to health that doesn’t involve medications (which can be potentially dangerous for the liver and kidneys long term).
As for the 8 Weeks to Wellness Program, Dr. Wawrzyniak said he is going to have to run a BETA group and test it out before it launches. More information about this program may be found at www.8ww.com.
