Share the joy of Nutcracker! Magical Christmas Ballet with family and friends this holiday season at The Theatre at Raritan Valley Community College, Branchburg. The ballet, which is part of RVCCArts’ Mainstage series, will be presented Friday, December 5, with performances at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.
This holiday spectacular, featuring renowned ballerinas and danseurs from leading opera houses around the world, pairs Tchaikovsky’s timeless score with Broadway-level sets and opulent costumes that were hand-crafted in Europe.
Fusing classical ballet with whimsical puppetry and breathtaking acrobatics, Nutcracker! Magical Christmas Ballet offers a vibrant take on a beloved tradition that has captivated audiences and critics alike. Give the gift of a spectacular experience that transports audiences back to a simpler time and creates memories to be cherished forever in this magical, heartwarming celebration of the season.
As is the custom, local students of Gotta Dance will perform along with the professional dancers of the world-renowned company. Caroline Hidalgo and Erin Ford coordinate the auditions and rehearsals for the approximately 100 young dancers from Gotta Dance, which has studios in Basking Ridge, Bridgewater, Martinsville, and Warren.
Tickets for Nutcracker! Magical Christmas Ballet cost $70, $65, and $60. Raritan Valley Community College’s Arts & Design department will present DanceWorks, an evening of student and faculty dance, on Thursday and Friday, December 11 and 12, at 7 p.m. The event will be held in the Edward Nash Theatre at the College’s Branchburg campus. The concert is being produced by Professor Loretta Fois, Director of RVCC’s dance program.
Student choreographers include Autumn Daniels (Elizabeth), Dina Grinis (Middlesex), and Lavanya Karthikeyan (Bridgewater). Additionally, two pieces by dance major Gianna Bovino (North Plainfield) will be performed by her students at Rising Stars Studio of Dance in Middlesex. The student choreography is the culmination of a semester of classwork, as students create and rehearse new works to be performed.
In addition to the student work, the concert includes two Chinese dance pieces by Jia Chen (Branchburg), and a new quartet by RVCC alum Nathan Forster (South Bound Brook). Three faculty pieces also will be performed: “Happenstance” is a collaborative piece created by Marissa Aucoin (Edison); Loretta Fois (Branchburg) will present “In the quiet of exchange,” a quartet that embodies community support and interdependence; and “Ledge,” by Lauren Beirne (Hillsborough), is a large group piece that uses a ramp as a prop.
Many dancers in the performance are also members of the Raritan Valley Dance Ensemble (RVDE). Under the direction of Loretta Fois, RVDE performs at local schools, senior centers, and community groups each semester, as well as at campus events. For information about scheduling a lecture/performance for a school, senior center, or community group, or studying Dance at RVCC, contact Professor Fois at lfois@raritanval.edu.

The RVCC Chorale will perform its annual fall concert on December 14, at 2 p.m. The event, which is open to the community, will be held in the Welpe Theatre at Raritan Valley Community College’s Branchburg campus.
The program will feature choral works by Benjamin Britten, Laura Nevitt, and John Tavener, as well as selections from famed Broadway musicals Hair and The Lion King. The program also will include solo performances by the winners of this semester’s chorale competition.
Conducted by Dr. Will Berman, the RVCC Chorale is composed of a diverse body of students, alumni, and community members. Abraham Alinea is the Chorale’s pianist.

Raritan Valley Community College’s (RVCC) Student Jazz Ensemble will perform in concert Thursday, December 18, at 7:30 p.m. The event will be held in the Welpe Theatre at the College’s Branchburg campus.
The group is directed by RVCC faculty member Jeremy Sweet.
The evening’s program features a dynamic mix of traditional and modern jazz arrangements, including selections from the Great American Songbook, hard bop classics, and Latin-influenced standards. Highlights include familiar works by Wes Montgomery, Duke Ellington, Roland Kirk, and Antônio Carlos Jobim, as well as several student arrangements and compositions. Each piece offers student musicians opportunities to explore improvisation and ensemble collaboration.
This semester’s ensemble showcases a wide-ranging group of student performers, from first-time improvisers to more seasoned players. The group includes:

Get ready to swing into the season at The Theatre at Raritan Valley Community College in Branchburg. It’s time to spice up the holidays with the George Gee Swing Orchestra in a performance of Sleigh Bell Swing, Saturday, December 20, at 7 p.m.
George Gee and his Orchestra offer a joyful celebration for the season, delivering big-band versions of favorite holiday classics.
Gee has entertained audiences for more than four decades, performing at Lincoln Center, SWING46, and at other top venues around the world. Known for igniting the dance floor for swing dancers of all generations, the George Gee Swing Orchestra promises a joyful, toe-tapping celebration for the season, capturing the magic of swing’s golden era for today’s audiences.
