Achieving beauty and skill doesn’t have to be a difficult process when it comes to painting a home. For a simple and stress-free experience in home decorating, Redelico’s Paint and Decorating Center in Somerville is there to lend more than a helping hand. “People don’t have to be stressed out about what they’re doing” said owner Randy Redelico. “When they’re stressed out, they need to come and see us.”
Redelico’s is a family owned business that has been in operation for 43 years with a home right in downtown Somerville. The building can be seen clearly, and may be known for its trademark “mural” on the side of the building, which is a bright spot on Main Street. Randy explained that the mural was painted as a memorial for a fallen artist, and resident of Somerville, Raymond Brown Junior. He gives credit to Douglas Hoekzema, the artist who painted the building.
The building itself is representative of the creativity and individuality that goes along with Redelico’s entire approach to helping people and delivering “service with a smile.” Randy stated “we put ourselves in the job.” From offering advice and tips, to carting out paint and coming to the home to help choose patterns and colors, Redelico’s is very hands on.
Redelico’s sells many paint products and accessories at competitive prices (some lower) and always offer coupons on their website. Randy will go down a “checklist” for his customers, making sure they have everything from tape, to spackle, to brushes and rollers and anything else that he is passionate about when it comes to painting. “We make sure you don’t forget anything” said Randy. For customers who need even further help, an extra advantage is the expertise of Genevieve Renner (Randy’s sister), who specializes in interior and exterior color design. Genevieve will go out to the customer’s homes to assist with decorating for a charge. If she is helping within the store there is no charge to use her services.
One popular and new product this store sells is Advance, by Benjamin Moore. This product is for making cabinetry look polished and finished; it is long wearing, durable and creates a “baked on finish” when it’s done. Redelico’s sells it for $59.95 a gallon; there are also contractor prices available for the product that Randy can work out.
Redelico’s takes things a step further by emphasizing kindness and thoughtfulness in their approach to selling and helping people uncover the solutions they need for their homes. The business is organized and efficient and keeps tidy records of their customers’ paint needs for the customer’s convenience. One perk of going to a store like this is the personal attention that is provided. Randy said they will regularly let customers take out the paint books from the store to choose their perfect colors and they also give names of helpful references for products and services. Redelico’s will happily cart products back and forth for the customer such as paint, books and wallpaper.
As for the future of Redelico’s and the business, Randy revealed that the building is currently up for sale as he would like to retire. As for who will take over the business, Randy said they will do their best to make sure it’s a kind person.
Randy stated “our legacy is taking care of the customer to the fullest.”
