In my humble opinion, a Financial Coach is a person who takes a stand for families. A person who is not afraid to engage in that difficult conversation about money or investing because it’s the right thing to do. A person who cares about you like you were family.
At Blue Water Financial, our coaching process is very simple. First, we educate our clients through one of our awesome engaging events. Then we take a look at their existing assets using a very powerful tool called a Portfolio MRI. Lastly, we show how a disciplined approach to investing can eliminate panic and confusion.
Nobody has a crystal ball, therefore, no one knows which stocks will perform best in the future. As a coach, I teach my clients how to eliminate random stock picking, selecting mutual funds based on past performance, and why timing the market is impossible and detrimental to your long-term investment returns. If someone tells you they can pick the best stocks or time the market, you may want to think twice or just run!
Most of the people I come across, I would characterize as Main Street investors. People who cannot afford to gamble and speculate with their money. My job as a coach is not to sell people what they want but to advise and coach investors about what they should have long-term. I say be very wary of the Wall Street bullies, the folks that will have you believe active management works long-term, stock picking is possible or the future can be predicted.
Our goal at Blue Water financial is to help investors realize their American Dream. How do we do that? By not allowing investors to do exactly the wrong thing at exactly the wrong time. In many cases when markets crash, many investors bail because they cannot stand the pain and mental anguish that is caused by seeing their accounts fall. It’s critically important that investors understand the composition of their investments and maintain a proper risk profile. Many investors find out too late that they were out ahead of their skis so to speak. We forewarn our clients about a possible market crash so they are psychologically ready for anything that comes their way. Today, investors face an array of distractions. One of these distractions would be the media. They love telling people how to invest.
What is the sexy investment today?
Or, it’s the constant barrage of forecasts and predictions about the future. I often refer to the financial media as financial pornography. I advise my clients to limit their exposure to these things and focus instead on the long-term.
At Blue Water Financial, we love coaching because we care very much about our clients and their families. At our core is keeping investors disciplined to the approach for a lifetime. After all, your dreams and retirement depend on it. I always say that one moment of weakness can undo a whole lot of good!
