Local artist, Christina Debarry, adorns our front cover with a pastel entitled “Mixed Bouquet”.She states, “ I have always had a strong love for painting and for my garden. Nature in all its forms has been an inspiration for my art work….my florals, gardens paths and landscapes. Flowers growing in my garden or simply displayed on the table have been one of my favorite subjects. I take pleasure in their lively colors, textures and the effects that light and lack of it create on the subject. Working from fresh flowers I feel the glory and magic of the moment. Such moments last only for a while because the subject is fragile and tends to change as time ticks away. I therefore work fast and intensely to capture the complex image as simply as possible. Painting all my darks first and then adding the middle and light colors at the end. I paint and teach pastel, oil and watercolors…Pastel is my favorite medium…the pastel stick becomes an extension of my hand while painting…in a way I become one with the painting”. Please read Christina’s impressive bio on page 8.
