In the last issue, I described a connection they had this past sum- mer when they met in Maine. And now here is their fall connection. At least they didn’t have to travel to experience this one. Susie works in non-profit fundraising, which requires that she network at various business events around Denver. In late September, she was introduced to Gil Irep, a health care executive that recently started working at a major hospital in Denver. Susie learned that Gil had been in Denver about a year. After talking with him a few more min- utes she found out that he had moved to Denver from a small town in Ohio, about a two hour drive from our hometown, Cincinnati. Naturally Susie asked Gil if he knew our sister, Lynn, also a health- care veteran and now consulting to healthcare companies. He said he may have heard of her but didn't believe they had ever met. After the event, Susie made an e-mail intro- duction between Lynn and Gil. They began exchanging e-mails to explore potential services that Lynn could provide Gil as he began to ramp up in his new role. A few weeks later, Lynn went to a dinner hosted by The Greater Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce. There she met a man from Procter & Gamble, which has its world headquarters in Cincinnati. When he introduced himself as Guy Irep, which is an uncommon last name, she just had to ask him if he had any relatives in Denver. Guy, said, “Yes, my brother, Gil.” Lynn mentioned that her sister in Denver had introduced her to his brother. Guy continued, "Have you ever met Gil?" Lynn said that she hadn't, at which time he said, "Well you kind of just did! We're identical twins!" My wife and I have identical twins, which can be hard to tell apart at times. We figured the par- ents of Guy and Gil must have had a good sense of humor when nam- ing them. If you think Guy and Gil could lead to confusion, those of you that are long-time music fans may remember The Whispers, who started performing in 1964 and continue to do so today. Their lead singers are identical twins, Walter and Wallace Scott. However, prob- lem solved as Wallace ended up with a nickname, “Scotty.” As much as I love telling stories about my sisters, I know there are many of you with random connec- tions.
