One affliction all of our customers with stainless steel kitchen appliances suffer from is fingerprint-itus. What is the cause of this epidemic? Oils and bacteria from the fingers get trapped in the fine grain of the stainless steel surface and are very hard to remove. Most of the 45 or so, off-the-shelf, stainless steel cleaning chemicals contain silicon, which embeds into the grain of the stainless steel and hardens. Unfortunately, the silicone and alkaline cleaning agents, which give the temporary shiny appear- ance, simply attracts dirt immediately after application by the homeowner. The soils get trapped into the grain of the stainless steel and thus the cycle of constantly required, time-consuming cleaning ensues. Bedminster ON-SITE now offers a special stainless steel appliance treatment, which protects against fingerprints and dirt smudges. Any fingerprints that do show up are easily wiped off with only a microfiber cloth. This process was devel- oped in Europe but is very new in the States. The treatment process is multistep and includes a pre-cleaning to remove dirt, a deep cleaning to remove oils, grease and caked-on silicon, a clear, durable polymer application and a short drying time. The polymer coating also helps to protect against bacterial contamination. Bedminster ON-SITE Drapery Care is a “spe- cialty cleaning” company.
