The reason is very simple…it makes decorating quite simple! Imag- ine this: opening the door to your new place, and every room beckons you to the next, because of a common color. Whichever color you choose may be one of several you love, but it appears in each room. My design partner, Carol and I love to work with two, possi- bly three colors together. One will be the background color, such as ivory, and one will be an easy blend, such as a creamy gold, and then, the POP of color, such as blue. Or orange, or yellow, or gray. The fun is in the individuality, and in the selection of accessories that provide the impact. Shop- ping for the accessories, or even the furniture, is so much easier when the color capsule, or theme has been established. Working with a designer at any point in life is a process, and doing it as a senior brings its own variables. Many seniors feel they have a deficit if they need to ask for help, thinking they should be able to do this by themselves. But looking at it objectively, having a design plan saves time and money, both of which are ever more important, especially as we age. A valuable designer will guide one to make the right decisions about where to invest design dollars. A good place to spend money may be in painting one or all of the walls to create a visual focus or warmth. Or per- haps a console for the televi- sion instead of resting it on a dresser may open up another storage venue. Spending deco- rator dollars on new bedding and towels may be the full extent of investment in the new home. These are all great conversations to have with your designer. If Carol and I (SENIOR ASSISTANTS) can be of help to you or your parents as plans move forward for a move to senior living, please contact me at 908-883-0469 or write to ellynmantell@aol.com , a nd best of luck at this exciting time!
