That is what Bar Cilento (pro- nounced Chee- LEN- toe), Stirling’s newest bar and eatery, promises its family of customers and that is what it delivers. Whether you are stopping in with friends to sample from the rotating list of craft beers, enjoying an artfully crafted cock- tail, or coming in with your family to enjoy a good meal, one thing is certain. Family-run Bar Cilento is a place where the owners will make you feel more like an honored guest in their home rather than a customer at a local pub. Owners Sam and Gigi Giordano were born in the Cilento region of Southern Italy – the inspiration and namesake for Bar Cilento. It is a place where people eat seafood fresh from that day’s catch and veg- etables from the garden out back. Neighbors and families spend time together and enjoy good food and great company. Sam and Gigi grew up celebrat- ing this culture, although they have lived much of their lives in the Unit- ed States. Their goal in opening Bar Cilento is to bring together the best of the two cultures that they love – tasty American drinks and bar staples infused with the Italian love of fresh ingredients and great flavor. Bar Cilento’s menu offers the best of both worlds. Italian favorites are always on the menu, like Gigi’s Braciole (a specialty dish of thinly-sliced beef, wrapped & stuffed with pecorino-romano, cilento-style marinara and served over fusilli), fresh pastas and ravioli and chicken parmesan. But then there are also bar favorites like Philly Cheesesteak Egg Rolls (shaved rib eye, mozzarella cheese and sautéed onions in a wonton wrap), quesadillas, Panini’s and burgers to die for! “Taco Tuesday” is a day when Bar Cilento gives its customers some inspiration to help them through the work week. On Tues- day, the menu offers a choice of three tacos for only $11 These are not your regular old tacos either. Choose from a flank steak taco with pickled onions and chipotle mayonnaise, or a blackened shrimp taco with mango salsa, or a cayenne-crusted chicken taco with salsa verde and pico de gallo. Not in the mood for tacos? You can substitute an Italian Quesadilla (Ital- ian sausage, mozzarella, grilled peppers and onions, and Cilento- style marinara) or delicious Italian Nachos (Italian sausage, ground beef, pepperoni, black olives, scal- lions, grilled peppers and onions). Make sure you come hungry! Bar Cilento has only been open since November, but it already has people talking.
