If you have ever been interested in how it works, here are answers to some of our most frequently asked questions. What is Laser Hair Removal? Laser Hair Removal works by safely delivering a beam of highly concen- trated light to the pigment (color) in your hair follicle. This procedure damages the hair shaft with heat and prevents hair regrowth. Just about any area on the body can be treated. How Many Treatments Are Required? Depending on hair thickness, hair growth cycle, and the area treated, permanent hair reduction is achieved in just 3-8 simple treatments every 4-6 weeks. The length of each treatment ranges from a few min- utes to an hour or more, depending on the size of your treatment area. What Are The Possible Side Effects? Laser Hair Removal is extremely safe. Side effects are minor if any. You may experience normal short-term redness and slight swelling around the hair follicle, typically lasting less than an hour. Most people return to regular activity immediately. How Much Does It Cost? The cost of the treatment mainly depends on the size of the area being treated. Prices have an aver- age from $100 to $750 (small vs. large areas such as lips or full legs) per session. Generally, in PA and NYC, a non-physician can deliver treat- ments, while in NJ a physician is often required to operate the laser. When Should I Get Laser Hair Removal? Sun exposure is best avoided or minimized for about one week before and after a laser hair removal treatment. Therefore the fall/winter season is the best time to get laser hair removal treat- ments. If you start treatments now, you will most likely finish just in time for summer! Am I a Candidate For Laser Hair Removal? There are lasers available to treat all skin types ranging from very light/ pale skin to dark skin. However, laser hair removal treatments work best on dark hair, so if you have very fair hair (blonde or gray), laser treatments may not be effective due to the lack of pigment in your hair preventing the laser from tar- geting the follicle.
