Welcome to the February 2016 edi- tion of The Warren-Watchung Con- nection. We ring in the new year with an outstanding issue filled with new and returning advertisers, great edito- rial content and dedicated sections making the magazine more focused and easier to read. I am proud to introduce two NEW columns in this magazine; A Caring Community, which is a column about “Local Heroes” in our community. Lauren Greenberg, featured columnist, will be interviewing people who are making a difference in our neighborhoods. This issue she highlights “ Puppies With a Purpose“ featuring local residents who work with the non- profit Northstar Foundation training dogs to help children with social, emotional or educational challenges. It is a won- derful story and I encourage you to read it. The second col- umn, very close to my heart, is written by one of my dear college friends about part of her journey with breast cancer. The Health For The Heart column, features “My Vinnie Story“ by Tina Erardi, which is beautifully written by one of the most beautiful people I know. Please don’t miss this heart- warming tale. This issue we are proud to present the following dedicated sections: The Kid’z CONNECTion Section, new to this issue, is for those families looking to get a jump on camps for the summer and school/ activities for the children this spring, Tie The Knot Section for your wedding and special events in the planning, Home Sweet Home Section for ALL needs around the house, Dining Out Section featuring local eateries and food options, Health & Wellness Section brimming with wonderful solutions, tips and hints for everything health re- lated and Spotlight on Seniors Section focused on our “se- nior” community. Also highlighted from our business/ professional community are: A ll Childrens Theatre, Café Venezia, Elle Kay Salon, George Press Jewelers, ProActive Care, Pure Barre New Providence and TJC Far Hills Design Build. Our talented writers have given us unique insight into these businesses and their respective owners. Local artist, Anne Kullaf, adorns our cover with a beauti- ful pastel entitled, “Dancing in Pink.” She believes that the most important recognition for an artist, comes from within, rather than from the validation that comes from external sources such as shows, awards or name recognition (a.k.a. fame). Anne is more interested in visually engaging potential students and collectors with her work, and in sharing a glimpse into her teaching style and work process. Regarding the cover work, Anne states, “I created this painting as a demonstration for my pastel students at the Visual Arts Center of NJ. I put a lot of emphasis on gesture, and I think flowers are a great example of how inanimate objects can be used to create movement in painting. I work directly from life and try to capture the gesture of the blooms rather than the small de- tails. Peonies remind me of ballerina skirts, they are ruffled and silky at the same time. They look as if they could dance right out of the vase.” Please read Anne’s impressive bio on page 8. In keeping with our “Community Minded” commitment, The Connection Magazines were honored to make the fol- lowing generous charitable donations in 2015: WHRHS Proj- ect Graduation, WHRHS Hall of Fame, Keeping Babies Safe, Watchung Hills Elks Lodge #2252, School of St. Eliz- abeth, Watchung Hills for Warriors, Transplant House of Cleveland, Swim Inc., Shimon and Sara JCC, Cooley’s Anemia Foundation, Watchung Arts Center, Center for Contemporary Arts, New Yorker’s For Children, Weichert Realtors Breast Cancer Fund Raiser, Bernardsville Cham- ber of Commerce and Watchung Hills Soccer Association to name a few. We strongly believe in helping those in need and hope our donations make a difference. Look for our FUN contest in this issue: SPOT THE FAKE! Somewhere in this issue is a fake ad.
