Before returning to painting full time, she previously worked as a graphic designer. She holds a BA in Early Childhood Education as well as a BFA in Design from William Paterson University. In addition to achieving Signature Artist stature from the Pastel Society of America, Karen is also a Signature Inaugural mem- ber of the Pastel Society of New Jersey and a juried member of the Degas Pastel Soci- ety. She is currently on the Board of Trustees at the Art Association in Roxbury and previously was a board member for the PSNJ. While exhibiting her work in many statewide and national shows, Karen has recently won awards in the following shows: The Pastel Society of America 42nd Annual Exhibition Enduring Brilliance at the National Arts Club in Gramercy Park, The Degas Pastel Society 15th Biennial Exhibit at the Garden District Gallery in New Orleans, The Connecticut Pastel Soci- ety 21st Annual Renaissance Exhibit at the Slater Museum in Norwich, Ct, and several Best in Show awards at the PSNJ Annual exhibit at the Cranes Mill Gallery. “As an artist, I love working with pastels because of their freshness, immediacy, and portability. In my paintings I try to bring forth the play of light and shadow, while creating compositions that are unique in their point of view. Favorite subjects of mine include people, places and everyday things that I find intriguing for their emo- tional impact. My intention is to capture the inherent beauty that these objects possess. I want the viewer to feel the warmth of the sun as it dances across a wave, a pillow, a face.” Karen currently works out of Artspace Stu- dio and Gallery in Morristown, NJ.
