Bernards-Ridge Edition
Welcome to the February 2016 edition of The Bernards-Ridge Con- nection. We ring in the new year with an outstanding issue filled with new and returning advertisers, great editorial content and dedicated sec- tions making the magazine more fo- cused and easier to read. This issue we are proud to present the following dedicated sections: Kid’z CONNEC- Tion Section for those families looking to get a jump on camps and activities for the summer and spring activities as well, Home Sweet Home Section for ALL needs around the house, Dining Out Section featuring local eateries and food options, Health & Wellness Section brimming with wonderful solutions, tips and hints for everything health related, Spotlight on Seniors Section focused on our “senior” community and the Charming Chester Section! Also highlighted from our business/pro- fessional community are: Dance Center of New Jersey, Dr. Matthew Lanum, It’z Vintage, 360 Design Center, Bench’s CARPET ONE Floor & Home and Decorating Den Interiors. Our talented writers have given us unique insight into these businesses and their respective owners. I am proud to introduce two NEW columns in this maga- zine; A Caring Community, which is a column about “Local Heroes” in our community. Lauren Greenberg, fea- tured columnist, will be interviewing people who are mak- ing a difference in our neighborhoods. This issue she highlights “Puppies With a Purpose “ featuring local res- idents who work with the non-profit Northstar Foundation who train dogs to help children with social, emotional or educational challenges. It is a wonderful story and I en- courage you to read it. The second column, very close to my heart, is written by one of my dear college friends about part of her journey with breast cancer. The Health For The Heart column, features “My Vinnie Story“ by Tina Erardi, which is beautifully written by one of the most beautiful people I know. Please don’t miss this heartwarm- ing tale. Local artist, David John Rush, adorns our cover with an oil painting entitled “Hussey Farm.” Hussey Farm is within part of Kittatinny Valley State Park in Andover, NJ. Mr. Rush painted this scene in oil right after an early winter snow. “The park wasn’t closed for the winter yet,” David Rush commented, “The roads were cleared a few days after the storm. The snow just framed everything for me and I really enjoyed painting this wonderful old farm in *plein air and simply titled it, “Hussey Farm.” Mr. Rush has also been included in a new book celebrating the legacy of New Jersey artists. It is an illustrated color history start- ing in the 1700’s. When asked how it felt to be included as one of New Jersey’s most unique and talented artists Mr. Rush commented, “It really is a life achievement and a pivotal moment for me. After working at my craft all these years, you can imagine how gratifying it is to be rec- ognized by the author as one of New Jersey’s premier artists.” Please read Mr. Rush’s impressive bio on page 8.
