FRANCIS J. GUBERNAT Born and raised in Newark, NJ, Frank Gubernat showed an early interest in art and design while in school. Follow- ing his service in the Air Force, he attended Rochester Institute of Tech- nology and earned a degree in Adver- tising Design. He worked in the indus- try for several years before becoming a high school art teacher in Woodbridge Township, a vocation he was devoted to for more than 30 years. During his time in the classroom, he earned a Masters degree in Mixed Media Print- making from Montclair State Universi- ty and Art Supervisor certification from Seton Hall University. He also taught adults at the Linden Art Association evening school as well as at the Som- erset Art Association, where he spe- cialized in drawing and oil painting. An active member of ARTsee, the Farmstead Art Group, the Newark Museum, and the Polish Cultural Foundation, Frank has participated in many one-man and group exhibits as well as juried exhibits and AENJ Artist/Teacher Network Invitational exhibitions throughout NJ. Frank’s paintings focus primarily on nature in order to convey to viewers a pleasant, positive visual experience. He works in watercolors, oils, acrylics, and pastels to recreate the beauty of nature in scenes that are both familiar and new. With an eye for vivid, distinct colors, he creates captivating images of beau- tiful places in his home state of NJ, as well as in New England and the West. His artwork is in private collections throughout the country. A devoted father of two daughters as well as a doting grandfather, Frank cur- rently resides in Basking Ridge with his wife of 56 years.
