THE BRIDGEWATER-SOMERVILLE CONNECTION

7 East High Street, Somerville, NJ 08876 908.685.3775 WWW. CIGELAW .COM Brian M. Cige Attorney At Law Cigelaw@gmail.com CIGELAW 7 East High Street Somerville, NJ 08876 908-665-3775 BRIAN M. CIGE, ESQ. Thirty (30) years ago, Brian Cige, a 1977 graduate of Franklin High School and 1981 graduate of Mont- clair State, began his legal career in Somerville as an associate attorney with Klausner & Hunter. There he pri- marily represented members of unions for public sector employees including teachers, police, Sheriff and Corrections Officers, municipal, County and State of New Jersey employees. Five years later, he became a “name” partner. Three years after that, in 1994, he struck out on his own and began the Law Offices of Brian M. Cige. From that time to present he has continued to be a sole practitioner, representing public and private sec- tor employees; handling cases from initial interview through mediation, settlement or trial, and appeal if nec- essary. Throughout Central Jersey, he has helped clients review Employment Agreements at the start of jobs and Separation Agreements at the end. When questions have arisen regard- ing workplace harassment or dis- crimination, or unemployment bene- fits, he has been the steady hand with legal knowledge to deconstruct a controversy and explain whether any State or Federal legal rights have been violated and, if so, what reme- dies are available. He has represented Custodians for Bridgewater-Raritan Board of Educa- tion; a Construction Code Official for Raritan Township and a Dispatcher for the Township of Bridgewater, among others. Brian Cige has repre- sented those discriminated based on age, gender, race, national origin, and disability. Some of these same employees and former employees, have gone on to start their own busi- nesses and, as the attorney-client relationships have become friend- ships, Brian has found himself doing some employer side work, including drafting Personnel Manuals or Employee Handbooks. He has been a lecturer for the Institute of Continuing Legal Educa- tion for lawyers on the subject of Dis- ability Discrimination and Reasonable Accommodation, and has spoken to many groups. And he has served as an Arbitrator for the Court, on the Fee (dispute) Arbitration Committee, and as an Ethics Committee member. Representing individuals, some- times referred to as Plaintiff side work, has many uncertainties such as not knowing when one case ends where the next will come from. He has been active in local groups, such as the Somerset County Bar Associa- tion (President in 2003) and more recently in BNI (Business Networking International). He is especially proud that so many of his referrals come from other attorneys, local and statewide. Brian continues to grow his practice by making himself avail- able to help those in legal need, whether by cases which become high profile, as some do, or by remaining completely under the radar. As Brian Cige begins his 4th decade of legal work, he has been expanding his practice to include conducting employment mediations, and representing student victims and those wrongfully accused of bullying. He is busy because he is good. And he looks forward to con- tinuing to represent his clients for years to come.
