TREATMENT OPTIONS FOR FACIAL WRINKLES By: Henry Lee, MD Fortunately, there is a wealth of avail- able treatments to help maintain a youthful and rejuvenated appearance. Whether you desire an improvement in your forehead lines or added volume in your lips, Dr. Henry Lee at the Lee Aesthetic Center is available to help you look as good as you feel. Botulinum toxin injections have been used to improve facial wrinkles for decades. Botulinum toxin works by relaxing muscles that cause facial wrin- kles. The most popular brand of botu- linum toxin, Botox ® , is FDA approved for the treatment of wrinkles in the glabella (area between the eyebrows) and the crow’s feet (wrinkles outside of the eyes). Alternatives to Botox ® include Xeomin ® and Dysport ® . In addition to the glabella and crow’s feet, injections can be placed in the forehead, the jaw- line, the neck, and around the mouth. Improvement in your wrinkles are seen within a few days and last approximate- ly 3-4 months. For wrinkles that are visible when mus- cles are relaxed and for areas that have lost volume, soft tissue fillers are used. The most commonly used soft tissue fillers, such as Restylane ® and Juvederm ® , are composed of a naturally occurring substance called hyaluronic acid. These products are injected into the deep layer of the skin and underneath the skin to improve the appearance of wrinkles and folds, such as the nasolabial fold (area from the side of the nose to the corner of the mouth) and smoker’s lines (wrin- kles around the mouth). Soft tissue fillers are also used to add volume to the lips, cheeks, and the circles underneath the eyes. The volume enhancement with dermal fillers is seen immediately, and fillers may last up to 1-2 years, depend- ing on the type of filler that is used. The Lee Aesthetic Center is excited to offer oculofacial plastic surgery and minimally invasive cosmetic procedures to central New Jersey. In addition to the procedures described above, we offer non-invasive body contouring with CoolSculpting, which can treat unwant- ed and stubborn areas of fat on the abdomen, flanks, chin, arms, back, bra region, inner and outer thighs, and dis- tal thigh (knee) region.
