Washington Avenue, Dunellen 732-629-7060 www.cafenune.com By: Andrew Flanagan Café Nune, a fresh new health food restaurant in Dunellen, NJ has made a splash with a vibrant spectrum of deli- cious healthy meals including oatmeal, salads, proprietary “greenoa” bowls and daily soup options. For your sweet tooth, the “Nune Crew” has acai and pitaya bowls at the ready. Juices and smoothies are made to order with all of the freshest fruits and veggies to wash down your meal. Everything is fresh, everything is vegetarian and easily cus- tomizable with fruit, drizzles and even chocolate and Nutella. A discernable emphasis on vibrancy and color in all of owner Sarah Pemberton’s creations is undeniable. For Sarah, the love for color begins with purple. Purple was the favorite color of Sarah’s late grandmother, Mary Murray. When asked about the influence her grandmother had on the woman she is today and what she is trying to create with her newest endeavor, Sarah says, “My Gram was my ultimate idol. She passed away three days after I signed my lease. My wish is that when our cus- tomers walk through the door, they feel her. I hope this is a place for people to gather, hang out, study, play a game, and of course, enjoy a good meal.” Sarah acknowledges the color reflected in her food as something she picked up from her Gram as well. Sarah recalls, “Every time you visited Gram’s house, there were always vibrant flowers out- side and Gram was cooking something colorful inside. It always made me feel so welcomed and warm and I think I’ve tried to emulate that at Nune .” The inspiration for the name “Nune” can be found in Sarah and husband Larry’s two children, June and Nash. With two under 2 (years old), Sarah has her hands full trying to balance being the mom she wants to be and continuing to deliver all of the creative options the Dunellen area store has come to be known for. When her kids stop in to visit, as they often do, it only adds to the atmosphere of a family eatery. June can be found exploring the grounds with her cousin Sami, “Funky Monkey” smoothies in hand, telling anyone she knows that she wants more acai! Baby Nash is usual- ly hanging in his chair or smiling in some- one’s arms and melting the room with his soft, sweet laugh. Sarah notes her chil- dren as a primary inspiration, saying, “As I was discovering my passion for mother- hood, I was also discovering my passion for creating healthy dishes for loved ones. Anything that could sneak some extra greens into my toddler, or anyone else is a win!” Café Nune seeks to be that shelter from the storm. That place you can go where you know you’re going to be greeted with a smile and a friendly con- versation. Oh, I forgot to mention, you’ll also be greeted with some of the best healthy culinary creations in the area. Drawing from experiences throughout her entire background, owner, Sarah Pemberton has put together a place where you can go eat a healthy meal you can feel good about and feel good about the people you are eating it with. Check it out for yourself at the corner of Wash- ington Avenue and North Avenue.Breakfast & Acai Bowls
