Gabinelli, Sales Associate Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices New Jersey Properties Summer is right around the corner, and the first thing that comes to mind for most of us is vacation. There’s nothing more exciting than the anticipation of a well-deserved trip. Your travel arrangements are in order, your bags are packed, the car is tuned up, the tank is full, and you are ready to go. But before you head out, did you take all of the necessary pre- cautions to ensure that your home is safe while you’re away? Here are some tips to ensure peace of mind while enjoying your getaway: • Hold Your Mail & Newspapers: The most obvi- ous tip-off indicating that no one is home is when your mailbox is bulging with mail and newspapers are piled up on your doorstep. • Set the Timers: Set your indoor and also land- scape lighting timers to create the illusion that someone is home in the evening. • Don’t make it Public: Social media is a power- ful tool. Broadcasting your vacation poses a seri- ous threat to your home and personal belong- ings. Wait until you return from your trip to share the exciting details and photos. • Unplug, and Turn it Down: Unplug all appli- ances except those on timers to protect your home from potential electrical/power issues. Turn down your thermostat, but do not turn off your heat/AC completely. • Alert your Alarm Company: Call your home security company to give them a heads up that you’re going away. Be sure that the alarm is set and working before you leave. • Personal Property Managers: Personal proper- ty managers provide a variety of home watch services - particularly for snowbirds, vacationers, corporate consultants, and others who take extended business trips away from home. • Rely on Your Realtor: Given that they are trained professionals in overseeing the safety, security, and maintenance of occupied and vacant properties. Keep your realtor in mind to help pro- vide a watchful eye on your home as well. While it is wise to consider hiring a personal property manager, if you have a relationship with a realtor, they may be able to provide the same servic- es to you as a courtesy. If you are planning to take a trip, selling or buy- ing a home, call me to take advantage of my recipe and tips for your next move! What's cooking with Lidia: Summer Vacations!
