Are you an executive that’s currently employed, but frustrat- ed because you feel you’re not being recognized by being pro- moted? If you wanted to get in shape, you would engage a fitness coach. If you were having per- sonal problems you might seek out the services of a life coach. There are experts who focus exclusively on careers and they’re called Career Coaches. The benefits of using a career coach are: 1- A career coach will help you clarify your goals, refine your goals, make sure your goals are achievable and help you develop an action plan to reach your goals. A career coach will help you focus on finding a job and/or achieving promotions. 2- A career coach will make sure your career foundation tools are in order. Does your resume capture the attention of the reader? Can you tell compelling interview stories? Are you presenting well on social media? What is your “top of mind” personal brand? Who is in your net- work that will help you? Why will they help you? 3- A career coach is neutral and will provide you with realistic, unbiased advice. 4- A career coach will help you define your values so you can assess if your values are in alignment with the culture of the organization. (Very important for success.) A career coach will also help you identify your key motiva- tors. 5- A career coach gives you a feeling of empowerment. You’re in control of your career. 6- Being in a job that you love is a “gift” and yes, it does bring happiness and success. A career coach can help you achieve those wonderful results. Athletes use coaches to get even better at what they do. Using a career coach is part of good personal career manage- ment, i.e. it’s an investment in you.
