Karena Bertolli, a Watchung resi- dent, first came to the U.S. in 1991 as a gifted stylist with little more than her dreams and began a career working at the original Art of Shaving in N.Y.C. As a result of her hard work, talent and dedication Karena soon realized her vision of opening her own salons. The first shop opened in NYC which was a small, elegant men’s salon serving busy bankers, traders and brokers in the Wall Street area. Karena next opened a second, larger salon serving a more residential clientele as the character of the area (aka FiDi) evolved. With the support of her husband, Robert, him- self an ex-trader, they developed a true family enterprise. The couple moved to Watchung 7 years ago to raise their son Alexander and daughter Laura. Established in St. James’s London in 1805, Truefitt & Hill is the world’s oldest barbershop as listed in the Guin- ness Book of World Records. Truefitt & Hill holds the proud distinction of having been awarded the title “official barbers to the Royal family,” honored by the Duke of Edinburgh with the Royal crest. For over two centuries Truefitt & Hill has been recognized as one of the finest traditional gentlemen’s barbers and perfumers in the world. Many celebrity clientele like Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Steve McQueen, Sir Lau- rence Olivier, Clarke Gable have fre- quented Truefitt & Hill. This impres- sive list includes Winston Churchill and many world leaders who have fre- quented Truefitt & Hill over the years as well. T&H expanded from London inter- nationally in locations such as Dubai, Singapore, Beijing, Baku, as well as numerous cities across India. Washington, D.C. is set to open this summer and additional locations are planned in major cities across the continent.
